I hate using someone else’s work two days in a row, but when God speaks… Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 What if it were to happen? What would happen if the Lord of creation were to “direct your paths”? What would that look like? The answer is found in the Bible when we examine what happened when He was allowed to “direct the paths” of people in scripture. Every time He was invited to direct people He led them to the most wonderful, prosperous, fulfilling places. He blessed homes, businesses, churches and individual lives in ways they had not imagined. We could look at many examples of what He did every time He was allowed to “direct” them. The simple reason that He was so gracious to people is that He is good. “Oh, give thanks to the Lord for He is good”. Psalm 118:24 This leads to the obvious question, “if He is so good why doesn’t He do more for people today”? The answer is found in Proverbs when we see that He waits to be “acknowledged”. The inference is that if He is not “acknowledged” He will not “direct our steps”. Herein is a great revelation for us. The God of heaven will not intervene into our daily affairs if we do not invite Him to by acknowledging Him. This is not a formal religious ritual we go through to unlock heaven’s blessings over us. Rather, it is a heart attitude before Him that willingly yields to His Lordship in every area of our lives. It begins as soon as we rise when we take a moment to thank Him for allowing us to see another day and we invite His leadership in our affairs for the day. All through the day in decisions both large and small (all your ways) we simply pause and ask His direction in choices. We cultivate a lifestyle of looking to Him as our wisdom and guide through life. As we grow in our ability to surrender our decisions to Him and wait on His direction in our affairs we find that we begin to make wise decisions that lead to great living and multiplied blessings. He is always faithful to do what He promises. He will “order the steps” of those who honor Him by looking to heaven in their choices to see what He would have them do. Life is a great mystery for all of us. I will be the first to admit that I need His guidance in order to make good choices. I am not smart enough to drive my own life to where I want it to be. Thank God for His willingness to “direct my steps” into great places! Why don’t you begin to put Him first in your everyday life by “acknowledging Him” in everything you face and see where He takes you? Father, I praise you for your willingness to direct me and my family in our daily lives. I believe that you will “order my steps” every time I pause and honor you by asking what you desire in every situation. |
